24 hours at Laramie... The Run

Comments

Sounds like it was a fun run. I would have joined you on it if the timing worked since it's in the area. Another day... Cheers!

PS: That's the same headlamp I bought and used in Bolivia recently. Two thumb up! Did you get the rechargeable battery kit?

Yep, I sure did get the rechargable battery kit. Unlike my camera, I absolutely LOVE this light!

This was a fun run. It was great being under no pressure to make a cut off or go any specific distance. The organizers also do a 24 hour around the reservior in Boulder in October.

Maybe I'll come down there to do that someday. But alas, there are so many races, so little time....

great story man!

i like your attitude about the whole run and it sounds like you had a good time and took good care of yourself.

the part about the hot dog is hilarious! i haven't eaten pork in a long time but i bet i would've dug in to a couple of dogs as well!!!

good luck on the 100! if my plantar problem ever gets better i will be in training for that as well.

Gorgeous Gorgeous Photos. Very very nice area to run!!! I'm not super fond of fruity gels (Try the tangerine if you want to really hurl). but I am not so sure that a T bone flavor woud really do for me either. Wild!
Hey thanks! I can't remember the last time I had a hot dog either but it sure hit the spot.

The scenery was stunning, which helped take our minds off what we were doing.

The more I try various energy gels, the more repulsive they become to me. No flavor seems any better than any other but tangerine doesn't sound very good. I don't know why, I haven't had any bad GI experiences with them... not yet anyway.

I'll take some boiled potatoes rolled in salt and a turkey sandwhich any day.

Fantastic writeup. I love your rule about what food to eat during an ultra - words to live by! I'm inspired by the goals you set and the decisions you made about when your goals were achieved. Lessons for all. Wish I could have seen those night stars!

"In the process of completely exhausting myself, I connect with an inner part of me ordinarily veiled by the everyday distractions of life. During that short time spent on a trail in the mountains, my life is reduced to its simplest terms. Most ultrarunners are people who find goodness and joy in difficult times, who see beyond the misery to the beauty of nature, and who truly realize the elemental and important aspects of life. Going for a run always clears my head... but running 100 miles distills my soul." Keith Knipling - RUNNING THROUGH THE WALL
